Self Storage Providers - How To Choose One

By Adam Bell

Self-storage serves a lot of purposes. This essential service is offered by any good warehouse company and has caught the fancy of both businesses and individuals. It helps in managing household items during a renovation, or in dealing with items that take up too much floor space without often coming to use. The reasons could be many but before deciding upon a self storage service there are many questions that you should ask the service provider.

Most pertinently, you should know how secure your valuables will be with the self storage service provider. You cannot leave your valuable articles with a self-storage company without having any idea if it has all the latest security systems installed in its facility.

You must also carry out a background check of the company, which can tell you a lot about its past performance and reputation in the market. The security system of any good self storage company should have fire alarms, CCTV cameras, police supervised alarms and electronically monitored door access system.

You must also ask the self storage firm if it has climate control technology installed inside its units. Climatic conditions can adversely affect the colour and polish of valuables like paintings and wooden furniture. Such fragile assets should be saved from exposure to extreme heat and moisture.

Lastly, the cost of space, maintenance and security that the self storage service provider charges from you should be reasonable. The cost will depend on three key components - the size of the space you plan to rent, if the service provider provides weather proof services and the duration for which you want to rent the space. Check what the conventional price in the market is, and as the industry is quite cut-throat you can always ask for discounts, particularly if you are storing a lot of items.
