Using Custom Lists And AutoFill In Excel 2007

Excel's AutoFill feature relies on the program's ability to recognize patterns in the data that you enter. For example, if you type "Week 1" in a cell, you can have the program automatically fill in "Week 2", "Week 3", etc. by using the AutoFill handle. This is located in the bottom right of the cell. As the cursor moves over it, the cursor changes appearance to a plus sign (+). When it does so you simply click, hold, drag in any direction and Excel will pick up the pattern and extrapolate it to create automatic data entries.

Whenever you use the AutoFill handle Excel displays the AutoFill Options drop down menu just below the last cell which has been automatically generated. If the program has not entered the correct data, you can choose one of the entries in the AutoFill Options to tell it what you actually meant it to do. For example, if you choose Copy Cells, you simply get an exact copy of what was in the original cell.

Excel is also capable of automatically entering an arbitrary series of data using a feature called Custom Lists. There are certain lists built into Excel, for example, the months of the year. To use the AutoFill feature, you need to enter the first value in the list, for example, "January" or "Jan". Next, you drag the AutoFill handle (located in the bottom right of the cell) in any direction to have Excel automatically enter the rest of the custom list.

In addition to these built-in lists Excel allows you to create your own custom lists. For example, suppose we worked for a company that has branches in several towns. It's almost certain that we would list these towns quite frequently in our spreadsheets. We could therefore save ourselves considerable time by setting this up as a custom list.

To do this, simply select cells in one of your worksheets that contain the information. Next, click on the Office button and choose Excel options. Click on "Edit Custom Lists" in the "Popular" category. Excel displays the contents of the cells that we highlighted. To convert the selected data into a custom list, we simply click on the "Import" button.

Once you've created a custom list, it can be used in any of your worksheets, not just the sheet that contained the original information. To generate the entries in the list, simply type the first value. Next, drag the AutoFill handle to conjure up the remaining entries. When using this facility, we can drag in any direction and we don't have to start with the first member of the custom list.

Custom lists can also be entered directly in the "Custom Lists" dialog box. To do this, click on the "List Entries" button and type the list separating entries with a carriage return. After entering the list, click on the Add button to make it permanent.

To delete an unwanted custom list, just click on it and press the "Delete" button. Excel checks that you want to delete the list and when you click "OK", the custom list is removed.

Using SEO Blog Comments For Back Links

It is widely know that getting back links to your site will improve your rankings with the search engines but getting links by leaving blog comments is commonly over looked.

You have probably heard that you shouldn't waste your time with blog comments because the search engines don't follow the link because of the no follow tag.

There is a trace of truth to this but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use blog comments to get back links because there are some blogs that don't have the no follow tags on their comments.

The default installation of WordPress automatically adds the no follow tags to the comments but if you know what you are doing you can find blogs that don't have the no follow tag or will remove the no follow tag in return for you making a certain number of posts.

Go out and post your comments on these blogs but before you do I want to make sure you aren't leaving spammy comments so here is some blog comments etiquette.

If you are going to leave a comment on the blog MAKE SURE the comment is relevant to the post.

If the post you are commenting on is about WordPress plugins don't leave a comment about sports fishing. This is common sense but you would be surprise at how many comments like this I delete.

When you are writing your comments don't put any links in the body of the comment. Not only is this poor etiquette it can actually get you listed on the comment spam lists if you are reported by the blog owners. You can put a link in the comment body if, and only if, it is a resource to something in the post.

I recommend that you set your blog up so that if there are links in the body of the comment it will go to the comment moderation. This way you will have to approve the comment before it shows up on your blog. This will keep the spammy comments of your blog.

Where the comment form asks for your name that should be your name, don't stuff it with keywords. You can use a pseudonym, I use Randy The Hermit because most people know me by that. Your pseudonym can have keywords in it, if the keywords are related to you or your business only. And it should stay the same on every comment. Besides if the no follow tags are in place the keywords won't help you in the search engines.

That pretty much covers the etiquette but I can hear a lot of you out there screaming, "Why should I bother if it is going to have the no follow tag on the back link?"

There are a few reasons why you should leave comments even if there are no follow tags, such as:

1.With or without the no follow tag it is still a link to your site. You can get over 1000 links to your site by leaving 5 comments a day for a year. These links will be seen by 1000's of people that might come to your site.

2.If you comments adds value to the topic of the post the author and readers will start to recognize your name and you will be branding yourself as an expert.

3.If you post an interesting comment people will click on your link to see what else you have to offer.

4.If you are selling advertising on your site through a service like text link ads they sometimes do their own back link research and ignore the no follow tag. This could result in you receiving more income from your ads.

There are the reasons to not worry about the no follow tag but what if you want to find blogs that don't use the no follow tag in the comments?

One way is to go to the blog and find a post with comments and look at the page source, find the comment and see if it has no follow tag on the link. This is a pain but it works.

The good news is that you don't have to do it that way. If you are using FireFox or Flock as your browser you can get an addon that will highlight all the no follow tags on a page. It is called SEO for FireFox and you can get it from SEOTools.com or you can search SEO for FireFox addon in Google.

This plugin will provide you with a lot of SEO information but it will also highlight any links that have no follow tags in red. If you find a post with comments if the name for the comment is highlighted in red it has no follow tags. Don't worry if you get tired of the red highlights you can turn the plugin off with a click at the bottom of your browser.

There are a couple of plugins that blog masters will add to their blogs that automatically removes the no follow tag from the comments and another plugin that will reward the people that comment frequently by removing the no follow tags from that individuals comments. This plugin is Lucia's Linky Love.

How it works it the owner of the blog can set the plugin so that after so many posts the no follow tag is removed from the comments of that person.

It checks the name and email address to see if this person has ever commented before and keeps track of all the ones that match. If you use different names (which has already been pointed out as a no no) or different emails you will never have the no follow tags removed.

The blog master gets to choose the number of comments it takes to qualify for no follow tag removal, the minimum number is 3 and the maximum is whatever they feel like. I usually see it set between 3 and 5 which means you have to make 4 to 6 post before you get a back link to your site.

Now I bet you want to know how this will help you when you are leaving comments. You can actually find posts that are using Lucia's Linky Love but doing a search in Googles Blogsearch. Put your keyword phrase in quotes then a plus sign (+) then in quotes Lucia's Linky and you should find posts on topic that use this plugin. Make the minimum number of comments plus 1 and you now have start creating back links followed by all the search engines.

I use this on my blogs and I have it set at three. Because I read the comments and if they are spammy I delete them manual link spammers never get the three links they need. This encourages better comments and more comments.

I Wouldn't Touch WebProsperity with a 10 Foot Pole

My phone is ringing off the hook and my inbox is plugged with IDENTICAL emails promoting WebProsperity.

This tells me there are TOO MANY people who just don't get network marketing.

Wild horses could not drag me into signing up with WebProsperity--not until the vultures back off, at any rate.

There's apparently still a SECRET in network marketing after all these years. If you're even contemplating WebProsperity, please listen. Never pitch a single person on a network marketing opportunity until you've first established a relationship. People will only buy from people they TRUST.

And it's darn near impossible to trust someone who uses a FORM LETTER email. I've been deleting over a dozen a day. Not the best way to get into anyone's good books...

MLM already has a bad name-what we need is more professionalism, not less.

What sets People Apart?

There are always people that at the first signs of stress or pressure cave in to the circumstances around them. They immediately throw in the towel and give up. There are also people that when the going gets tough, keep going and get better. What is it that sets these types of people apart?

The true answer is that those who don't have enough fight left in them to stay in the fight, didn't have a good enough reason to be in the fight in the first place. Did you catch that? In other words, their why wasn't big enough.

The players in the game of life who come to bat expecting the home run, even when they are down and out are dramatically able to visualize their "why" or their reason for doing things in every circumstance. They are committed to their purpose and whether that purpose is to win a baseball game or make a million dollars.nothing is worth giving it up!

Have a Compelling Reason

The why's or in other words the reasons you want to achieve things is the biggest and most compelling reason you will have to strive towards your goals. If you are starting a business venture that takes a lot of time and energy then in order to keep at it you have to create reasons that resonate with your deepest desires otherwise your commitment, tenacity and determination will easily stall out mid stream.

Let's say you've become dissatisfied with the way your life is going. You are not happy with the status quo. You've determined that you'd like to have enough money to gain a few more material possessions and to have more leisure time.

While material possessions are of great importance they cant be the only element that fuels your "why." Once you get all the things you want, your purpose will be gone and with it, your drive and determination. Set high goals that are inclusive of not just vacations, but the reasons "why" you want those vacations as well.

By knowing what your reasons are and by adapting and changing them you will never lose your 'why' or your purpose for continuing to be successful.

Spending some time writing affirmations that reinforce your reasons (your why) for wanting to make major changes in your life is the first step to strengthening your why. Once you can see, feel, taste and touch a connection between your intention and the reason you have the intention you will no longer except excuses or give in to doubt.

Making excuses is another way of not taking responsibility for your actions and thoughts. Starting today keep a journal of all the meaningful changes you want to see in your life.
