You need to do 3 things right to get into investment banking: win access to recruiters, get their attention with your CV / resume, and ace your interviews. If you've been failing so far, you're doing one of these wrong.

Let's address "access" first. You need to begin a dialog with banks by going to business school or college campus presentations, speaking with headhunters, or going through school alumni or others you know professionally.

This is super-important and many people never realize how recruiting really works: banks target a VERY limited set of institutions - around 10 to 20 so-called "target schools" - and focus their recruiting efforts there, nearly ignoring everything else.

So you'll have to rely on networking via referrals, informational interviews, and cold-calling, if you're not at one of these elite institutions - making it significantly harder to break in.

If you go this route, make a list of all local boutiques and small firms in your region, and don't give up until you've called all of them - and then move onto alumni, referrals from friends, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other means.

Once you have some sort of access to recruiters or bankers at these firms who will actually pay attention to you, you need a winning resume / CV to actually stand out and get interviews.

Keep your resume short and to the point - 1 page or less is appropriate in 90% of cases. Focus on the 2 or 3 experiences that "sell" you best, whether those are internships, leadership activities, or your most recent jobs for more experienced candidates.

Include as much as you can on specific results and what you actually did, using numbers wherever possible. Make your experience sound like it involved specific transactions, clients, or projects as opposed to just writing generic summary sentences.

With a solid resume in place, next you need to hone your interview skills. The most important part of any interview is your "story" - what you say when they ask you to tell them about yourself, so lock down why you want to be an investment banker and why now is the perfect time to do it for you.

Make sure you tell your story in chronological order, and explain how each experience made you more and more interested in investment banking. 90% of the interview comes down to your story.

A good grasp of technical questions on finance and accounting is also necessary, but those can be learned from reading books or interview guides - your story should get the bulk of your attention.

Sometimes posts that aren't even meant to distribute a lead have one. So scour every inch of the different work at home forums that you may come across to find new ideas, contacts and job leads.

Humans have been writing and making marks as far back as the caveman. It was the ancient Egyptians who were the first people to write on paper. In around 3000 BC the scribes from ancient Egypt used reed brushes to write on papyrus scrolls. The reed pen was used up until the Middle Ages, although the quill pen had begun to replace it as early as the 7th century.

The quill pen is made from a trimmed goose feather whose shaft has been cut into a good writing point. Trimming the quill was a real skill, and a talented scribe could create some very nice calligraphic effects.

The quill pen was first used in Qumran, Judea to write some of the dead see scrolls, and was introduced into Europe in 700AD. It was also used to write and sign the constitution of the United Stated of America in 1787.

The quill pen was replaced by the metal dip pen in the early 19th century. The metal dip pen had a steel nib with various holes to hold the ink. Ned Middleton describes how he and a team of Divers from Diving World discovered a wreck in the Egyptian Red Sea.

The trip was now scheduled for three weeks - commencing 18 December. Sounded good to me and I promptly ordered more film. Then he telephoned again. Firstly, he asked me if I knew anything about the Rosalie Moller - I did not (though I did know who to ask!), then he asked for my views on the conservation of shipwrecks - and I made them clear.

I know for a fact that my views are not shared by all Divers - but allow me to explain by using a hypothetical example: Shipwreck (A) is a steel cargo ship sitting upright, virtually undamaged on an even keel - in, say 30m. Generally speaking she is complete and intact with all portholes in place. On the Bridge we find the Bell, Telegraphs and Compass and this the Diver to pause and visualise what it might have been like when the vessel was underway. Then there is Shipwreck (B).

Structurally, very similar in size, attitude and condition - except that all the brass fittings have gone. Now, I know which I would rather photograph - but which would you rather dive? My attitude is best summarised, therefore, as "Take only Pictures - Leave only Bubbles" - and do so on behalf of fellow Divers.

That, however, was exactly what Yassin wanted to hear and he then asked me if I would be willing to appear on Nile Television and meet with certain Government Officials. When I agreed, he said that this would take up the bulk of the third week. Back at the drawing board, however, I could find nothing whatsoever on the Rosalie Moller until the National Maritime Museum sent me a fax of an old photograph of her sister ship - the Hubert built in 1910 and pages from two separate books showing "Rosalie Moller - raised after war and broken up!"

Now, as the days progressed - and please don't ask me how, I gained the impression that the Staff of Diving World in Hurghada had actually found a "new" wreck but when I arrived it was the other way around - they thought I knew where it was. Suddenly the trip began to take a different shape as, within moments of arriving we began to discuss the prospect of a search.

Certainly the idea had merit - but let's be realistic. Between us we had virtually no information, a faxed copy of an old photograph - and even that was of another ship, and a general area so vague it equated to a search area "south of Plymouth" and on top of that the Rosalie Moller was scrapped over 50 years ago. On the positive side, however, we did have our combined experience and passion for Diving and one or two clues.
