Creative Alliance will hold an Open Mind exhibit on April 2, 2009. The exhibit will start from 4:30 P.M.- 6:30 P.M at Creative Alliance at The Patterson, Baltimore, MD 21298. This will feature students from ages 7 to 12 art work. Art work that their teachers have asked them to look inside and describe what they see.
The students are to look deep inside them, whether it may be where they come from or what they have been through. To express what has made them happy or where they had found their joys. In hopes that the children will learn to celebrate their own identity and that their identity is more than skin deep.
Fells Point Creative Alliance was the original name of the Creative Alliance back when it just started around 1995. This alliance was composed of volunteers that work at the Old Feels Point rowhouse. It served to be the venue of a gallery, the performance space and artist guild. The vision of the alliance was to have the children incorporate art with their daily lives.
The children from the Baltimore Southeast family faced their poverty and addiction problems daily. When the Creative Alliance saw this, they together with other community organizations like the schools and churches planned to provide for the needs of the community children.
In order for the Creative Alliance to meet their vision they created activities for the community children. Some of their activities were like having a summer class or after school programs which kept the children far from harm and a safe haven to stay in. They also created the Open Mind on 1998. This Open Mind was created in hopes that the children will use their local libraries more often. The community children will find pleasure in reading and at the same time learn from the books that they are learning. The
