You are killing two birds with one stone as not only are you doing a reverse lookup, you are also seeing if the number happens to show up anywhere else on the Internet. This is your best chance of getting the cell phone number so it should be done first.
Another method that I regularly use is to go to one of the volunteer directories that are on the Internet in order to see if the number was left there. Volunteer directories are websites where people can go and leave their personal information, including cellular numbers. There are tens of thousands of people who have done this but the vast majority have not. Even so, it is worth taking a couple minutes to see if you get a hit.
One other thing that I tried to do is to look at some of the other reverse phone directories that are online. Although most of these are tapped directly into the same database as Google, it is possible that they may have supplementary results in their index. I make sure that I don't spend any more than a few minutes doing this, but it can result in success from time to time.
