Designing Sites With SEO In Mind

By Alex McMillan Boyle

When you have decided to take your offline business into the online arena, getting a website of course is a very minimal and basic thing to do but, just having it hosted on any of the servers would not suffice. Once it is live and active, if the website does not do any business and increases the turnover, the entire purpose of entering the online platform is lost. That is one of the main reasons why SEO is a huge part of the online industry.

We have all used search engines and we all know that there are usually thousands and thousands of results that come up for any search term, but it is only the first few that get looked at because people aren't going to look through thousands of results when they can usually find what they are looking for in the first few results. Therefore the challenge is to get your site up to the first few slots on the results page so that people will find you.

A big part of SEO is using only the web design techniques that the search engine spiders can index when they crawl into your website. The same applies to using frames in the website designing stage. Ultimate aim should be to use the frames that can be indexed by the various search engines.

The vast majority of the traffic that comes to the Internet to find what they want does so through search engines. Identifying the keywords that get the most searches within your target market is a huge part of SEO and you should make those keywords your page title, your META tags and the alt text behind your images. Also, if you have you researched keywords as your URL, then you will start to advance through the rankings far quicker.

SEO friendly web design would ensure a top spot in the search engine ranks, however it is a long and difficult process and is hence a daunting task for the web designer to accomplish. The entire SEO process when done in a systematic and methodical manner will definitely fight half the battle for the website.
