Roof Replacement Versus Roof Repair

By Scott Rodgers

Roofs of our house face all the harsh whether conditions like heat, rain, snow etc. So, their regular inspections and maintenance becomes very important through out their lifetime. Sometimes, you might small repairs while in other cases you might need to replace the entire roof.

Whether to go for roof repair or roof replacement must be decided very carefully as roofs are the most important aspect of the home. Below are some points that can help you taking your decision but the action should be taken at the earliest to avoid any worse situations.

Some early signs of weakening roofs are : stains on the ceiling, discoloration, flaking paint, peeling wall-paper etc. Before they cause some serious damage to your roof, take appropriate steps.

Causes like small holes can be patched up, while cracks in shingles cannot be. Whatever the cause, never wait, hire a professional to determine how much the repair and treatment costs will be, and how long your roof will live once complete. If it does not exceed the cost of a new roof, and will survive at least its original life cycle, then repair. If not, install a new roof.

Every roofing type requires regular maintenance, though the levels of maintenance can vary. For example, shingled roof require annual and semi-annual inspections others, such as PVC roofing, require next to no maintenance at all.

It is very important to have knowledge about the roofing material that is being used for your roof. This will help you to get a clear idea about the expected cost of the new roof, it maintenance as compared to the old one.

The average life of a roof is approximately fifteen years. If the roof is under fifteen years old yet you are having problems, it will likely be able to get repaired as opposed to having to install a completely new roof. However, if your roof exceeds this age it may be necessary to install a new roof.

If you have decided to get a new roof installed, make sure that you hire a skilled professional roofer to do the job. Roof installation is a very tricky process, and anything not executed accurately can lead to serious damage.
