Designing A Website? Don't Forget About SEO

By Mark Walters

Now you might think that simply knocking together a website is easy, a simple thing and an easy way to make money? Wrong.

If you want to write a website that will "Generate Sales" you need to do a few things more than simple website design.

First of all, if you just put a website online it will do nothing. It will not be indexed it, it will not generate sales and it will just sit there like a minimart in a forest.

So, to have your website be indexed by Google, Yahoo and Bing, what do you need to do?

You need to think about what keywords potential customers will type into search engines when looking for the product or service that you are offering. Make your website URL includes these keywords if possible. As an example, if your keyword is 'website design' and you are targeting the Cork area, it would be ideal to have the following web address - http://CorkWebsiteDesign.net.

Make sure you have all titles and header including your keyword's. As an additional measure, your site text in general should include your keywords throughout. Try to use them at the start, middle and end, of each of your site's pages. The point of this is that it makes it easier for search engines to work out what your website is about. The more they know about this, the more favourably they will rank your website in their search results..

Did you notice how that website design incorporates regionalism? Opting to add a location to your website URL and Title reduces the amount of competing websites that must outrank in the search engine result pages. By narrowing your niche you reduce your market, you make sure you target exactly the people you need to.

Having made sure that your on-site SEO is in place, you next need to look at "backlinking". If you over look this aspect of SEO, Google, Yahoo and Bing will almost certainly ignore your website. Your website will be ranked according to how accurately you have performed your SEO and the amount of sites that are linking to yours. You objective is to find ways to get other websites to link yours. The more successful you are in achieving this, the better the ranking of your website will be.

These are just a few of the techniques that can be used, but this is of course more to it than this.

You can always consult with a specialist SEO company if you would like further help with anything else SEO related.
